AN INNOVATIVE, CLEAN AND ECONOMICAL EXTINGUISHING AGENT
Aerosol is a new generation of extinguishing agent for the effective fighting and suppression of fire. It is economical, environment and human friendly.
Aerosol is a solution of salt particles that are suspended in a gaseous environment.

AEROSOL COMPOSITION Aerosol fire extinguishers are made from potassium or strontium salts. Thus, aerosol fire extinguishers are classified into:
i. Type K (potassium-based)
ii. Type S (strontium-based)

HOW AEROSOL WORKS
Conventional fire extinguishing agents use the following methods to extinguish fire:
» Suffocation method (depletion of oxygen levels in air below 15%
at normal pressures extinguishes fire)
» Cooling method (heat absorption)
» Removal of fuel

Aerosol extinguisher on the other hand, extinguishes fire by inhibiting the chain chemical reactions present in combustion on a molecular level.
It removes the flame free radicals and extinguishes fire without depleting oxygen.

DESIGN & OPERATION METHOD
Aerosol fire extinguishers are designed around the major goal of extinguishing fire without human intervention.
The design and operation of aerosol fall into two categories as follows:

1. FIXED – AUTOMATIC
The fixed automatic aerosol is called AEROSOL AUTOMATIC FIRE EXTINGUISHER (AAFE). It activates without direct human intervention.
AAFE operates in two modes as follows:

a. Alarm sensor – heat, smoke or flame
b. Manual – emergency button

AAFE can be likened to FM200 or Water Sprinklers.

2. Manual – Portable
The Manual Portable aerosol is designed to be used and operated by humans in fighting small fire at home, offices or vehicles. They are referred to as Manual Aerosol Fire Extinguisher (MAFE).
MAFE can be likened to conventional DCP or CO2 fire extinguisher bottles.
